Natalia Zourabova started working on this painting in March of 2020, on the final day before Israel’s first lockdown. It depicts a field in central Israel near Hod Hasharon.
Natalia tells us that this twilight hour is her favorite time to paint nature, as the sunlight becomes softer and objects are painted a yellowish-red with its rays. It’s a brief natural state where the past and the future seem to exist in parallel, at the same time: the events of the day coming to an end and the night that is about to unfold, intermingling in our minds. This tension is mirrored in the contrast between the plowed field and the cityscape in the background, an image that for Zourabova is the essence of central Israel.
